@supermomof4 this is one of the reasons I stopped buying chickens at farm stores, you have a 50/50 change of getting a hen or a rooster regardless of what the person working tells you, how the gender is told is honestly based on the breed, it's not always the same way too tell.

I now purchase from local hatcheries, they specialize in the breeds, they know the specifics, the hatchery I purchase from has a 99% rate, they guarentee that only 1 percent of the time, they are known to accidentally give you the wrong gender.

@baddest.witch.in.town, sounds like I need to find a local hatchery then. After the fox incident last month I’m done for now. Next spring though I’m getting another coop and some more babies and hopefully I can find someone who knows more! But I do still love this guy! He’s so pretty and iridescent.
