I stupidly decided to ask my kids dad for help to get a car and it's becoming so stressful. It's my first car and I'm already regretting it. We go to get the title tomorrow and I have a few questions as far as ownership. He's already lied about a couple of things and I feel like it's too late to go back now. I looked up answers on Google and on my states website and got nothing so can someone help me out?
I’m not sure about WA, but in CA you can get a car insured without a drivers license. Not all companies will do it, but there are broker agencies that will find someone to take on the policy. I would look into that online. If you’re in a bigger city you’ll be more likely to find that.
In my opinion, it’s not too late for them to add you to the title and registration. While the sale may have gone through, that doesn’t mean the DOL documents are part of that. If they try to say that it is too late make sure all documents get mailed to you so you can take them to DOL as soon as you get them and add your name to the title. You can even ask if they’ll mail the documents to you and you can come back to pick them up.
If you can’t cancel the sale, take another friend with you so they can drive the car straight to a mechanic for you so you can get it looked at under the hood. Let the BD know, “thank you for helping me buy the car, but I got this now” Put him in his place, don’t let his sense of entitlement turn this into a huge mess.
