We eventually want to live in Alaska. But first want to spend time out there in difference parts to see which would best suit us. We only know the bare minimum really. But it's always been our dream to visit and one day live there.

Definitely visit first! There are so many different areas of Alaska so try to get a feel for what you can. Where I am there’s lots of wilderness - forests, lakes, rivers, etc. but we’re also close to the ocean. It‘a beautiful. The more remote you are the more expensive things are like housing, groceries, gas, utilities, etc. I’ll post some pics I’ve taken in the comments to give you an idea of what Southcentral Alaska is like. Most of the state population lives here, but it’s still sparsely populated once you get out of Anchorage. I live about 2.5 hours from Anchorage. We moved here from Maine in 2011.
