I hope for everyone that virtual short term and eventually everyone can return safely back into the school setting. I wish there were more things that can be done for all of the children and even the teachers.

I heard something the first week of school. Hopefully that’s how your school works too .

Oh my goodness. That’s so sad 😞 😢. I feel so sad for so many of these children. I wish there was something more we could do to help them.

I definitely do think right now virtual is what’s best. It‘s just such a hard situation for so many. I wish things weren’t like this and that the children could enjoy their peers and teachers. I wish the children who need the extra help get it and that those we aren’t in a safe place are helped. It’s so sad to think about these different situations. I hope no children are forgotten about. Do you mind sharing what enrichments they will receive? I’m definitely noticing some schools are definitely on top of things and others not so much. I’m interested to see how things are being done everywhere. I definitely feel you about the concerns of the students and staff that have to return into the setting during this time. Super scary.

My daughter is receiving speech and ot and pt all virtually. Since she was in preschool last year, it will be a continuation of what she did online in the spring. This is actually my daughter's 3rd year of preschool so I'm very familiar with her teacher and all of her therapists, we all have kept up a dialogue through text and email throughout the summer. (We made the decision to keep my daughter in preschool for 3 years long before covid was a thing, due to her age and delays. We all agreed that it would be better for her to be one of the older kids entering kindergarten opposed to the youngest. Academically she knows everything she needs to know already, but she is behind in her social, and motor skills)

As of yet, I'm not sure exactly what my autistic nephew is getting as far as enrichment. My sister only told me the times that were set aside for him on a weekly basis to see his therapists virtually.

We live in a pretty small town in Illinois, where everyone knows everyone, so even though I'm not 100% sure what services my nephew will be receiving this year. At least not until his IEP, I do know most of the therapists that work for the school and have a good relationship with them. School actually starts this Thursday for my nephews and on Monday for my daughter. The school is supplying 1st -12th graders with cromebooks and my daughter will use her tablet and her teacher will drop off packets every week to my house for what she needs to accomplish for the week.

Has she started back yet? How does she feel about it? Here we don’t have a schedule or any details besides it will be virtual. We are weeks away from school starting and have no idea what’s to come. They are giving our free meals to any child under 18 and have been since school closed in march. I’ve also seen some information for students who have become homeless during covid. In situations like that I wonder wonder how things will work with making sure they have resources to participate.

@dontblockmesis-imjustspeakingfacts we start back after labor day. We're actually lucky enough that we live in a blue collar town that has a small school district. Only one pk-2 elementary and 2-5 elementary with less than 400 kids in each building. We were only given the choice of back full time or remote full time. You can re-enroll in full time with five days notice or switch to remote within one day. Because the district is so small they have been able to secure grants so every student has access to Internet. They also provide iPads for kindergarten, and Chromebooks for 1-12th grade. For the younger kids they will be also providing materials ( crayons, glue, scissors, etc) for remote learning as well as in classes. Our district received the ebt card for EVERY student in the district ( blue collar town) so kids haven't been left hanging (as long as their parents are being responsible). They have a meeting coming up about what the emotional support will look like etc. Overall they have done a phenomenal job for being a district that is highly ranked isnt Connecticut, I have been pleasantly surprised. With the exception of the unknown when it comes to teaching a kindergarten kiddo remotely I'm not anxious at all. I've even offered to start a pod if we go full remote with a dear friend because she has a newborn and two in elementary school with a hubby that works overnights at the prison....like I said someone will always have it worse in any circumstances, that's what I think people have been missing lately.

Btw kiddo was anxious about going back to school ful time and the district didn't offer hybrid which was part of the reason we chose to keep her home. She's well acclimated with school routines since she's been in daycare since she was 5 months and talking to her about the changes that were happening (no touching teachers, not sharing with friends, etc) made her visibly anxious 😩
