Anyone with kindergartners? First year in school & online? How is it going for you kid? My daughter starts next week and I’m super nervous to see how she handles it. My fear is her getting distracted and not being able to concentrate and the curriculum length is literally 4 hours long on the computer. Like how am I gonna keep her focused and on the computer for that long??? 😭 this is going to be a tough road but we’re going to give it a go. If not they told us we could just start her next year but I want her to be in her correct grade and class. I don’t know I hope everything works out.

We are in the same boat with my daughter. She has a pretty good attention span but I dont know how well a whole school day is going to go. I just keep telling myself that if this doesnt work out and she has to start next year instead that she wont be the only kid that had this happen. And we are going to give it our best shot to stick it out through the year.

Your daughter is doing a whole day of school like the typical 7 hours? My daughter has a good attention span and she’s also excited so hopefully things goes good.

No its 4 hours. And they will have breaks frequently too so im hoping that helps.

My son will be in kindergarten this year but first full year online. He did have online for the rest of pre-k this year but only had to submit assignments that was sent to us by the teacher and every now and they’ll meet with the class but just to see how everyone was doing and they’ll share things like toys, favorite pair of pjs, food, etc. my son starts school this Thursday, his attention span isn’t all that great but I’ll do what I can to keep him focus on his school work

I guess that’s all we can do is give it our all and do our best. My daughter has something similar like that as well. They sill meet in zoom and do like a show and tell a few times a month so I think that’s good. It will help with keeping the kids engaged and motivated.

so true and that’s awesome. I’m sure they’ll do great, as much as we would love to send our kids to school, just cant do it right now.

Mine was a kindergartner during the remote learning last school year and I cannot imagine 4 hours. They could barely do an hour. I think it also depends on each child though. I’m sure there will be times they will get up move and such. Doesn’t hurt to try though!

Right 4 hours seems like so much! It will be a few breaks in between so I guess that will help a bit.

My daughter has always done online school. Teachers are very attuned to their students and no brick and mortar school would have their kinder students sit for 4 hours. I bet your kiddo's teacher will have them get up, move, shake the sillies out from time to time. My daughter's 2nd grade teacher blasts music and they all have their webcams on and they have a dance party to get that energy out.
Teachers know how squirrelly kinder students are and yours isn't going to be any more squirrelly than the rest, I promise! It will be okay! :)

And that’s another thing which brings me ease. The fact that many young kids do this since homeschooling is a thing so I know it’s doable. I am probably overreacting and I’m sure everything will be fine. You’re also right about kids not sitting the entire 4 hours and also she will have two breaks so I’m sure it will be fine. Thanks for this helped a lot!

Reading these made me feel better. We have decided to keep our son home for the time being and that’s one of my fears. No I have no idea how long he’ll be on line but... I’m hoping it works out because last year for preschool when we did distant learning he didn’t do well 🤔

My daughter is going into 1st grade. However, her last 3 months of kindergarten were remote. She actually did really well. I was so nervous but it was good. I think it really depends on how your school does it. Our school does live classes all day over zoom. They get assignments on google classroom and complete them with their own handwriting through kami. If the teachers weren’t doing live classes I think it would be very difficult so hopefully yours is.

My daughter is starting kindergarten next week but this isn’t her first year of school. She was in preschool from ages 2-4 then did TK at age 5. She did the last 3 months of TK at home and it was rough. We didn’t have live instruction back then so the teacher uploaded work and videos to a website for us. I aimed for an hour per day plus some fun activities when we had time. There’s no way young kids can sit at a computer for 4 hours. This year they’re doing live instruction and the kids will be assigned a 2.5 hour block either AM or PM. I’m not sure if it’s gonna be continuous or what. We’ll see how it goes.
