Thank you for today. Thank you for what today means to us in history, may we remember this day 75 years ago as it signified the end of WWII. May we always remember the men and women who came together to serve our nation near and far, domestic and abroad. May we never forget the sacrifices made and the call for our nation to stand together as one. UNITED WE STAND ONE NATION UNDER GOD!!! God bless America then and God bless America now!!!

I am saddened thinking that I knew men who served in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and every conflict of present day. By time my children are old enough to remember who they have known as children all the Veterans of the older generations will be gone and with it the history they take with them. All of my great uncles were of the Great Generation and all of them are long gone...

Amen. I've never known a WWI vet, but I have known the rest and they are incredible people. When a veteran opens up to you about their service, it is a rare gift. <3

@xryztalroze, yes, my father in law has remarked many times on how different it is now (especially right after 9/11) compared to the Vietnam vets homecoming. So very sad 😞

It was a moment I will never forget!!! My best friend whose father was WWI, has a son who during the time I was in the service refused to allow her any contact with me. He was a 60's hippie anti-war type and she would sneak off to church to send me letters when I was in basic but couldn't keep that up for long. So when they did that and shared their stories I knew that I wasn't alone. It helped me cope.
