So anyone Who knows me on here even slightly knows that I brought my daughters betta fish back to life after almost dying. I’m pretty proud of that. Hahah.
WELL, I walked into Petco yesterday to get some stuff for my dog, and noticed that their area of bettas was looking rough. Eight dead fish & then one floating - hardly breathing. On the edge of death. He’ll swim slightly, but he floats back to the top. I’m 99% sure he has swim bladder disease. Which he seems like a young fish and that’s actually common in juvenile bettas. So, I made them give him to me for free and brought him home.
If I can save him, he will be going into my sons room. Since my son is obsessed with Toy Story, we named the fish Bo.
His lack of color / the fact that he is clear means he’s severely depressed. So we actually don’t know what color he’ll end up being.
I wish I could post videos, but I have him set up in a hospital tank with a half gallon of water, heater, and a ton of Indian almond leafs. The leaves leak vitamins into the water- making it brown and super healthy. I’m starting salt baths this afternoon to help with the swim bladder disease.
I got a tank for my sons room just in case he does make it, and I’m currently cycling the tank to get it already so he can be transferred if he gets better.
Today I got him to eat five whole blood worms from my finger, so that’s wonderful news. I have him in our guestroom, with the lights off so it’s nice and quiet for him to rest.
Wish me luck! Haha! 🤍

I’m glad you were able to get him out of the store and into your home! We had a fish at the office who had swim bladder and my coworkers were able to nurse him back to health. It was amazing watching his progress. Good luck!!

I’m glad they cared enough to help him! I feel like many would just assume nothing could be done. Which, until you know about all the Diseases and illnesses, how would you really even know! When I join those Facebook groups, a lot of people can be super aggressive and mean, lol. I’m just thankful there were some kind people to help me learn.

you’ve motivated me to be a better fish mom when we get one eventually. I had no idea all this was possible. Our nanny also knows a lot about fish care and she said pet shops are atrocious for how they care for their fish. I’m thankful you shared your experience last time and this time so we can all learn more and know better.

That’s what I was thinking since they’re such small fish. We also massaged our fish and he would sometimes pass the trapped air.
