Controversial post... Has any one given baby's baby rice or cereal at 4 months my little monkey has been so fussy with her bottle and boobs the past few days I'm hoping it's the heat. Mother in law was down and said try some baby rice as she may eat that better.
.
.
. Ruby absolutely loved it to the point where she was grabbing at the spoon and pulling it into her mouth ate a 1 spoon of mix potion (not whole bowl) then drank milk and boob like a champ)... What do you guys think? I'm first time mum and just wanted to make sure she is having enough. Do you think I should continue once the mother in law goes back to Ireland or wait until she is a little older?

Thanks all I appreciate your input, mother in laws and parents are very difficult to say no to especially when on your first. She did enjoy it so will allow her to taste the odd bit of baby cereal and let her play with it but BLW I will not be starting yet I always planned to do that at 6 months.

We waited until 6 months with the girls but we did BLW so it all happened quite naturally. She’s your baby and you can do what you like, but baby rice and porridge doesn’t have anything in it so wasn’t worth it when my girls were young x

I waited till 6 months as there are llts of reasons why its bad for baby to start earlier. Babies go through fussy stages with bottles around 4 months just have to keep going. They won't starve themsrlf just take what they need. But it is up to you if you want to feed her im not going tk tell you not to xx

Yeah I read the packet after she had a little taster. Did not use as a replacement for milk at all she was a lot more settled after though and drank well from me and bottle after. She has been suffering so much in this heat, I tried cold milk today rather then heating (she was popping off the boob in a matter of minutes) she tool the cold better then when I warm it and was a lot less fussy it did take an hour to drink each bottle though. She just kept playing with it or pushing it away. Can't wait for this weather to cool off a few degrees.

I started with a couple of spoonfuls of baby porridge here and there when Madison was about 5m. Just make sure you aren't replacing any of her feeds with food

The guidelines in the U.K. are the same as above. Rice cereal has no nutritional value and is simply a filler. If you don’t want to wait until 6 months there are better food options available but guidance is to wait until 6 months and meeting all signs of readiness.

I'm new to all this and I was railroaded a bit by mother in law but I must admit Ruby absolutely loved it. Had the biggest smile on her face after each (tiny) mouth full. I have read some advice on it and fully planned to wait 6 months. But seeing her I think it would be nice to let her have the odd tastes (she is meeting all markers listed and has great head control, rolling forward and backward, full press up and now trying to sit up (God help me). I just know the advice says 6 months so wanted others opinions and experiences

@forrestr1987, I waited until 6 months with both of mine, open gut as mentioned above being one of the reasons, but as the poster above said she’s your baby and only you can really decide. I’d say definitely stick with tastes rather than meals, watch for added salts and sugars, you can blend up veg for her yourself so you know exactly what’s in it and make sure milk stays her own main source of food at the moment. My MIL was the same though, she bought a box of rice cereal for when we visited her, I wanted to do BLW so it never got used but it was normal when they were new parents.

@mariapb she only has 1 spoon of the powder mixed with breast milk once a day. I am going to move on from the rice though in a couple days as there seems to be a lot of comments about arsenic. I'm hoping to try the oatmeal next week. It is only tastes, I would not dream of using it to replace milk but thank you for your advice I don't plan on starting proper weaning until 6 months but it's nice to see her have the odd spoon and smile at it and get excited and snatch the spoon lol

My son was 16 weeks when I moved on to solids and I don’t regret it and my youngest brother was 10 weeks old when he was moved on to it! Only
You know your baby and it’s recommend by professionals but they don’t knwo your baby and it’s also recommends to breastfeed for 6 months only but again they don’t know you or your baby a fed baby is a happy baby

It's just all so confusing, railroaded a bit by mother in law. But also after seeing babys smiles after each taste I'd say she loved it

I’m in the US but here it is recommend to wait until 6 months due to open gut and health issues that can show up later in life. Rice cereal has high levels of arsenic so it’s recommended to use oatmeal. I’ve started all of my children at 6 months or older and I do BLW.
