Advice on a name please.
My husband is Muslim and we decided to call our boy Luay. In English it is Louie. I still would like the name to be spelled in Arabic way, but I’m not sure if the child will have problems at nursery and school because his name is unusual.
So the options are Luay, Louay and Luei.
Would you choose any of these options or just leave it as Louie?
They all sound nice but I suppose it is personal preference. My eldest Lexi is without an E on the end and when I make phone calls or speak to someone like a receptionist etc they say is that Lexi with or without an E 🙄 so I find myself spelling it to them before they ask lol xx
I think whatever spelling you go with people are going to ask how you say it because it's different, for that reason id spell it with your preferred spelling. We have to tell people how to pronounce Aniela's name all the time and people still call her Aneela 😐 I like the fact that Aniela has a different name, I wish id been brave enough to go for something more usual with Theodore
I agree with others. Go with whichever you like best. My youngest is Remy and I’m Genevieve. I’ve always had people struggle to pronounce my name and it’s funny seeing all the different spellings when people try but I like the fact it’s different
I'd just go with what you want, I've got Maci (May-cee) but people have called her Mac-kee and Maisie a fair few times, even after being corrected 🙄 as long as you're happy with his name xx
I wouldnt worry about it. My baby girl is called Iyla originally spelt Isla but i changed it. I get Lyla alot as ppl mistake the i for a L.
I like the luay and luei way of spelling 😊
I like it! I agree with above, I think luei sounds closest to Louie but they’re all nice x
I like luay but I read it as loo-ay rather than Loo-ee so it depends if you want him being called that a lot. Luei people would think is said more like Louie in my opinion 😊 x
It won't be an issue at all... one year in the nursery I used to work at we had 4 boys all with the same name, all spelt different (Tommy,Tomi, tommee and tommie) all Christian (not that that makes a difference), I've seen so many variations of names I always ask how it's spelt now rather than assume, Isobel is another name that has lots of ways to spell. We have had polish children who have 3 names (1 child but 3 ways of saying or writing It, it's tradition in Poland for a child to be given lots of names, a baby name, a legal name and a adult name) so luay is very normal from my view in fact it's quiet unusual for children's names to be spelt the traditional English way now x
I love all of those options:) I don’t think it will be an issue at all :)
There’s lots of unusual names these days and sadly if we don’t teach kids that it’s the norm then there is going to be issues etc 😊😊
Don’t be worried about other kids, go with a name you like and how you want to spell it
Keep it as Luay! I love it! Kids have all different kinds of names and spellings now xx
