Is It Okay For My 1 1/2 Yr Old To Not Be Talking? Saying Or Carrying On Words! Dr's Say He Has A Speech Impediment, But I Think He'll Talk When He's Ready....
In my honest opinion I think it’s a boy thing. My oldest didn’t say anything really til 2 then didn’t start really talking til 2.5 he was perfectly fine just not interested in talking. My girls were talking by 14 months, currently my youngest son is 17 months old and says very few words while my niece is the same age and saying many words however not doing other things my son is.
My son was the same way. My niece (2), I swear can speak way better than my son. My son talks good now but had a rough time starting off. However he is very independent and knows quite a lot. I’m honestly surprised daily by the stuff he comes up with
If you’re worried about it, ask for a referral for a speech eval. Most places do them for free. For kids who truly need speech services, the wait and see approach is not the best approach.
@msjassy30, coming from a different perspective, my son has a speech disability. If we’d waited until he was older, we’d have lost valuable time getting him the early intervention he needed. Sometimes waiting it out isn’t the best solution. He had 5 words by 18 months, but mostly gibberish and sound effects. We had him evaluated at 2 and diagnosed a few months after that.
If you’re really concerned or anxious, an eval is an easy way to see if he’s on target or needs some assistance. Most places have so many kids who need assistance, they’re not going to recommend services unless they’re actually needed.
A lot of children do not speak at that age and go on to be well adjusted later on in life. What were the doctor's concerns? Have you thought about getting a second opinion?
They Said He Had A Speech Impediment, But I Don't Want To Go Off That. They Thought He Was Slightly Death Bcuz He Wasn't Walking, But He Started Walking 2 1/2mons After His Birthday.
