Tell me why our stupid county thinks it’s okay for the younger kids to go every day yet the older kids need space.
I’m confused, and I refuse to send my daughter in person. I’m so irritated. I understand that there’s a lot going on… And most school administration knows as much as I do, but I’ve asked a few times now about distance-learning for my kindergartner with absolutely no help or resources.

Although it is harder to get little ones to understand social distancing it is more vital for their development that they have a more stable routine and a lot more socialization than older children to learn and stay on track developmentally.
In our district the idea for having older ones hybrid is that it opens up the middle/high school to the little ones to be in those spaces at lower ratios than they normally would be, making it a little easier to emphasize social distancing.

@leonardsquared, I don’t see any way that working parents can do the online learning effectively. It’s impossible! And it’s no fault of their own, there just aren’t enough hours in the day and the added stress must be enormous. Someone who works a job that’s not 9-5 may be able to manage or a parent who stays home but I know that’s not the reality for many families. We are giving the option for families to do online instruction again, so I am glad that the ones who want that will have that option. I am nervous about returning to a school building with over 500 people in it, personally. But all I can do is be diligent as I have been this whole time. I know that in-person instruction is what’s best for kids, it just grinds my gears that so many people refuse to wear masks and practice social distancing. Their poor choices impact the whole community. If people and families were more diligent about following the health guidelines I would be less nervous about the return to the school building. Sorry to go off on a tangent. I’m processing a lot these days as we are starting to prepare our building to have kids back in our new normal. 🥴

girl you saw now long my reply was, I was on my own! I'm VERY worried/anxious about the upcoming school year. Like I feel like an ass saying I NEED my kid in school when in the back of my head I worry if I'm actually doin what's best for him, or easier for me...MOM GUILT! OF COURSE his health and safety are important BUT so is his education and I am NOT equipped to educate him the way he NEEDS to be.

I think that’s a great idea! I hope our district does the same thing. Younger kids need much more attention and direction so they should be with their teacher everyday. Older kids can more easily study at home and use technology without parents help so they could learn at home.

I’m a stay at home mom too but I work part time so during my son’s nap I’m on the computer. Since school was closed my daughter has to occupy herself usually with the iPad. Normally she’d be at school. For TK I really only had about 1 hour a day to sit with her since I also have a 2 year old to manage and my job. She’s a very social person and needs to be with her friends and a teacher that’s not me. She’s been in school since she was 2 and has never had more than a week off. So the fact that she’s been out of school for 4 months has been hard on all of us and has made her really lazy. Kids needs structure and routine. We’re still waiting on the decision from the school district and I really hope they don’t try to force kindergarteners to learn at home because it’s not gonna go well.

I was told by my sister in law who is a middle school teacher over here, that they're doing it this way mainly bc the older kids can stay home alone. A lot of parents are back to work now, and the elementary kids can't be home alone doing online schooling. I have a 4th grader and kindergartner, and I do not want to send them back in September 😩

You’re absolutely right! I got that email, and then I was just immediately pissed off before I really thought about it. Haha.
I was talking my friend who’s a teacher for the county and she laid it out for me.
Buttttt, she was like “these ‘precautions’ are a joke.” She was saying that the masked all day on 5 year olds, staggered recess, lunch at your own table, everyone spaced 6 feet... that it will be like teaching in a circus. I feel for her.

it really just sounds awful. I feel sorry for the teachers and the poor kids. I really wish they would just continue with online schooling a bit longer

there’s no way my daughter is wearing a mask all day. She won’t even wear it for 2 minutes. Any time we go anywhere she doesn’t wear one. And how are the teachers going to keep track of them all when kids take them off or try to trade each other? It will do more harm than good because the kids will be touching them all day and they will serve to spread germs to everyone.
