Omg we’re at the animal hospital with our dog. I think his blood sugar level is off (he has diabetes) and he had a seizure on our way down (50 minutes from where we live).
It was absolutely terrifying, we thought he was dying on our way. I was beside myself on the phone with the vet, my husband was trying to help our dog, and my son was bawling.
He was taken in on a gurney and I had to sign for emergency treatment and resuscitation. We are waiting in our car for some kind of word (can’t be inside because of COVID). He is old and I’m just broken thinking about him being in there, scared and by himself. I know they will give him the best care they can. 😭💔

Yes you’re right I was a vet tech and ice is currently. How’s the dog doing today? Did u know he was diabetic? I know it sucks u can’t be with him at the hospital but they are taking good care of him. Any update today? How old is he? What breed is he?
I’m am so sorry! What a heartbreaking thing to go through for your whole family. While saying goodbye is never easy, your dog will know you’re there and appreciate the comfort you bring him in his last moments. @scruffy.nerf.herder, awe big hugs for your family ,was his belly bloated at all? I’ve seen many dog situations in 21 yrs as a groomer even though,I’m no vet tech ,I’ve saved dogs lives from feeling tumors on dogs their owners didn’t notice they had once I did their haircuts at times or did behavioral issues that turned up because,of their sudden health issues or skin issues some pet parents aren’t aware of .

Update:
We called the pet hospital for an update. His blood sugar is not rebounding. He had another seizure. Ultrasound found a mass on his spleen that is cavitated, meaning it could burst and he'd bleed out. The vet also thinks he might have pancrea cancer because he's just not responding to the sugar bolluses. We're driving down right now (midnight) to say good bye 💔
I am so truly sorry. If it is any comfort, it sounds like your good, old fella lived a wonderful life and was very loved right up until the end.
It is so heartbreaking to lose them, they truly make your house a home.

We had a diabetic dog, it’s so scary when things go wrong. I hope with rest and the IV, he is alright in the morning! 💜💜 to him and your family
He’s been doing pretty well on his insulin since he was diagnosed last August. Scary how it can go bad so fast!
Oh goodness, I am so sorry! That sounds so scary! I hope that he will be okay after spending the night and getting his blood sugar back up. 💜💜💜
We just got to pet him and say goodnight to him. He was shaking, but after petting him, he fell asleep. Our bill is huge, but something I didn’t think twice about.

He had another seizure when he arrived. His blood sugar level was so low it wouldn’t even register. They gave him IV sugar and he’s back up to a 42 which is still quite low. They will be keeping him overnight to monitor and work on getting his blood sugar back up.
We think that with him being boarded and not wanting to eat much, having his insulin administered normally actually put his blood sugar too low. He was severely hypoglycemic. We are going to get to see him and pet him good night before we go.

@mamagunn.no.1, they also felt a lump in his abdomen, so they will be doing an ultrasound to make sure that isn’t why he didn’t want to eat this weekend. Still worried, but he’s okay for now 💜

Animals become part of our family ,Was that his 1st seizure since being diabetic? Did the seizure last more than 5min ? I’m a professional groomer many yrs a vet once told me to use an ice pack on a dogs spine if it ever happens and a seizure shouldn’t last more than 5 min maybe his diabetic meds may need to be adjusted ;( I’ve seen a puppy that gets so nervous have a seizure yrs ago it’s very scary to witness and older dogs too having a seizure u have to be careful to not pick them up so fast when they are having a seizure they can bite you ,once they pee &poop during the seizure it’s over but,always go get evaluated by a VET .
This was his first seizure. It was maybe 2-3 minutes long max. He was barking While we were driving. We thought we were witnessing him dying right in front of us. He’s almost 14 years old. We fear this may be it.
@scruffy.nerf.herder, I would go inside the vet place and ask them what’s going on and ask to be near him or at least in the waiting room he’s 14 yrs old so probably makes him more nervous not to see you ,you have a right to be near even with a mask

Thank you 💜 He was boarded this weekend and wasn’t doing well when we picked him up, and just started looking worse. That seizure was the single most terrifying thing I’ve seen. I literally thought he was dying right in front of us.
@scruffy.nerf.herder, he was in a boarding facility ? Did they give him his meds on time or meds at all ? I would call and ask questions immediately over there . At any time he was in that facility did they call you to say he is acting dif ,not eating , sleeping a lot ?
