Maybe the magic tree house series, because of Winn Dixie, how to eat fried worms, diary of a wimpy kid series

I second Diary of a Wimpy Kid & Magic Tree House.
Also Goosebumps, Dogman, American Chillers. My son loves the American Chillers series. The author is from our state, so he also writes a Michigan Chillers series.

I was going to suggest Magic Tree House. My daughter also likes Nancy Drew and Ivy & Bean. She blew threw the Ivy & Bean series in a week.

The Worst Witch is also supposed to be a great series and kind of an introduction to Harry Potter when they aren't quite old enough for all that.
