our health insurance is a joke. india’s doctor prescribed a HFCWO vest but her insurance said that since she’s only had one lung infection, she doesn’t qualify. even though it will help prevent future infections 🙃 until she’s had at least 3 infections, they won’t consider covering any preventative equipment. without insurance it would be $17,000.

Insurance in general is a joke. You have to have it so you don’t pay out the ass for things but most times you still have to pay a lot because they like to find loop holes to what they will and won’t cover

That’s horrible! So sorry to hear. Did you meet with a social worker at the hospital? If so I would contact them and see if they know of anything that could help. We had a super helpful one when my daughter was in the hospital and she was able to give us a great deal of information to help us get things that we needed including how to apply for state coverage due to my daughter’s needs at the time even though we would not qualify based on income. Thanks to that we were able to help supplement some expenses that our own health insurance plan wouldn’t cover

All insurance is a joke. Such bullshit! I’m sorry. I don’t understand why for profit companies are allowed to override a doctor’s orders because they want to save some bucks. Truly disgusting. The American health insurance system is terrible. Is there an appeals process?

they sent me the appeal information, but apparently this is common practice for CF patients and it’s unlikely that it would be approved on appeal, ill still try of course though. im hoping the social worker can connect us with some other resources.

That's so sad. I feel like most insurance is a joke tho 🙄 I have severe asthma and when I got my wisdom teeth out with surgery my 3 diff pain pills were all covered minus $10. My 2 asthma inhalers?? They cover about $10 out of $400+ and that's per inhaler.

ive heard that asthma inhalers are super expensive! our insurance covers my daughters nebulizer treatments thankfully. have you tried goodrx? ive heard that they have coupons for inhalers.
