Feeling like a s*** mum today Ruby had 8 week check up and jabs so whilst she has been rocking a temperature. I've been crying over the Dr wanting me to supplement my breast with bottle because she is not gaining as much weight as she would like.
.
.
I know fed is best but it has taken me a week to get her relatch without tears following nipple confusion. Last 24 hours she has been perfect and so content on boob and drinking lots. Now we have to undo all that hard work.

If she has been happy wait. Is she weeing and pooing? If she is than no need to worry! Do lots of skin to skin while feeding too it helps loads with latch. You can do a so called whole day in bed shirtless with baby with just a nappy on it helps so much for baby to practise latch and to simply latch whenever she wants to in a relaxed envorment xxx

I have done a breast feeding peer support training course and please be reassured that you do not need to supplement. If anything, you should increase the amount of water/squash you are drinking and feed on demand.
Sounds perfect that she’s having enough wet nappies. Carry on going as you are, you’re doing great!
I too have cmpa babies so cut out dairy myself. It takes a couple of weeks to see the full benefit from that. Don’t rely on how much you can pump out either, a baby gets more out of you than a pump can.

I hope this has reassured you a little xx

What does Cmpa stand for? I think I have done great to teach her to re-latch twice with no support. I knew she would have a little to catch up on because of this. I would have rather dr listened to what I said and said ok I will see you next week keep doing what you are doing and we will reassess next week. But no you would think they didnt like breast fed. I have upped my fluid and dr agreed she latched on perfect but as I said that's been a week long battle. Thank you for your words xx

@forrestr1987, it’s cows milk protein allergy. Sorry that was me jumping to conclusions because I saw you’ve gone dairy free and the bit about explosive poos.
It would have been better for the doctor to advise you to contact your healthy families team if you have any concerns xx

@kedwards85 I dont think she has, the health visiter advised the drops because she was getting really upset going to the toilet as she was really gassy. The colief made it worse it was literally shooting out, but i have stayed lactose free myself just as i though she might digest easier. So far poos and wees have been so much easier for her and proper poos rather then a mustard machine gun. Dr said sh may refer me to lactation consultant if she doesnt improve but I kind of said what is the use in that. I spoke to one 3 days in and it was about as useful as a paper mallet. I dont think I have problems with supply just latch which is now corrected the dr checked it whilst there and said it's perfect.

I breastfed my first for 22 months, so when I had my daughter you’d think I’d be a pro but nope all the same worries and doubt popped up all over again. Do what feels right for you and baby. If you’re happy with latch etc and baby shows all the signs of being content then keep going with the breast. Babies will automatically suck when a teat touches the roof of the mouth so she might take a bottle after a feed but it won’t necessarily be because she’s still hungry. There’s a great group on fb with actual lactation consultants running it, I can send you the link If you’d like.

I have always fed her on demand, and I believe the problem has been with her recent refusal at breast. now she is fully back on I feel she would gain more. She always has lots of wet nappies dr didnt even ask. It's just got me feeling disheartened as I wanted to get back to exclusively. She had had problems with wind and explosive poos so health visitor advised colief added to expressed bottles but it made her worse, and was really hard going i never left the sofa as she was taking 6oz at a time and my supply dropped from 4oz each boob at first to 2oz. I have since gone dairy free for butter and milk and she is pooping what I assume to be normal and my supply is upping again.
Dr just made it sound that she would be referred to hospital and kept pushing for me to hire a double pump. Xx

If you want to exclusively breastfeed and baby seems happy and full and content then I’d just continue with that and see how she goes! Make sure you’re eating well and she should be fine! X

You don’t have to give bottle! Just offer her the breast as much as possible. Don’t feel pressured. As long as you’re getting plenty of weed and poos then she’ll be fine! 😊xx

You definitely don’t have to supplement if you don’t want to. Are you feeling confident of your latch etc? Is baby having enough wet and soiled nappies? Are you feeding on demand? My son took a while to gain weight in the beginning, admittedly it was before 8 weeks but he was definitely slower, then suddenly he gained 1lb9oz in 10 days. If you feel like you need/want to supplement there’s no shame in that though. It may just take some pressure off until you feel more confident. Can you talk to your health visitor? They tend to be a bit more clued up about breastfeeding than doctors.
