This is me with my biological Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt when I was 12 years old.
Yes, I’m bi racial. Society treats me like I’m black though because of how I look. The police look at me and treat me like I’m black. I’m embraced way more by my fellow black brothers and sisters than I am by white folks. My own grandmother (in the pink dress)told me I needed to stay out of the sun so I didn’t look so ethnic. Society doesn’t let us be whoever we are, especially if you’re mixed with black. Instead, if you’re mixed with black, you’re black with the exception of your white parent who reminds you you’re mixed. I embrace my black culture to the fullest, don’t get it twisted. At the same time I don’t deny who my mother is either. It’s a fine line when the country gets divided. I’m known as NoNo on the streets, that’s just me.
Just a little food for thought...Coming from 40 years of real life experience...

Also my parents adopted a mix baby. Those comments that came from our white relatives really stuck out to me at the time I was an early teen. Like why was it necessary to say to keep from the sun when that is just who you were born to be and let y’all enjoy your life.

Because this is American, if you're 1/12th black, you are... black. You will be seen as black, you will be identified as black, as long as you look black, you're black.

Yep. I read a really good book back in college called Black Like Me by John Griffin. It talked about all of that down to the classifications of Mullato and Octaroon and the law in Louisiana that used to be on the bookswhere 1/16 of black in your blood makes you black. It’s sad...
Yes that was my mom. She passed away almost 12 years ago.
