How do you guys handle your kid walking up to strangers?

My neighbor next door (he isn’t a stranger but my SO says he is) yet he speaks to him daily and his mom and dad have conversations with him too ... when one of them speaks to him my daughter speaks the same as they do being friendly but her dad punishes her for it as if she is wrong then gets mad cause I go off on him like if you don’t want her talking to people you shut ya ass up talking to them too you can’t do that to a kid ! 😒😒😒
