So when a man signs away his rights does that mean he no longer has to pay child support?

In most states you can’t just sign away your rights. There has to be extenuating circumstances or someone else willing to adopt a child. Otherwise people would do it all the time.

Technically yes. But like @ekko said most states will no longer allow a parent to sign away rights. You have to establish a history that the other parent is detrimental to the child physically, mentally, or both...or you have to have a step parent (legally married) adoption.

Ex: I have a client that sees her daughter regularly but she has had her rights terminated by the courts. She is an ex addict that is also bipolar. Also had a history of neglect. In this case the courts allowed parental rights to be terminated ( don't ask me how the hell the woman still has visitation. It still perplexes me to this day)

Ex: My husband is going through with our step parent adoption (5/13 🙌)...we had to be married and prove that there was no relationship between my daughter and my ex husband. My husband has been in my daughter's life since she was 9 months and she's 5.5 yrs old. I'll get one more child support payment in May but once the adoption process is finalized in court child support will cease.

Not in all cases. He signed his rights away 6 kids and still has to pay child support
