Okay ladies. I need your best advice. Waylon's bilirubin levels are high. They are at a 15. Which is 2 points from yesterday. When we were discharged, it was at a 9. My milk JUST started coming in heavy today. And I'll be increasing feedings along with letting him "sit in the sun". Anything else I can do. He has more blood work tomorrow.
@allyzmommyxlw giving formula isn't necessary. Just supplement with pumped milk or have him nurse as much as possible.
@allyzmommyxlw, do what your gut tells you I formula fed both my boys so idk how it honestly differs I know formula is packed with stuff and pooping is what gets it out faster which is what he needs but listen to your mommy gut

Definitely feed him as much as possible! My daughter was really high when she was born and we ended up back in the hospital. The head nurse and doctor told me to nurse as much as I could and that would help out so much!
that's okay. Anything helps. I'm even increasing my fluid intake to try to get my milk at its best.
I had the same issue with my son when he was born. I sat out in the sun and nursed like crazy and then he had this huge blowout and then his levels were okay after that. Your milk just came in heavy so try that for 24 hours before introducing formula.
Ooh!! He's been pooping a lot today and peeing more than yesterday. Hopefully that helps. It's really windy here, and chilly. But I have him in his bassinet in a sunny spot that comes through the window
You're doing great! Nurse him as much as he can possibly take. You want him having as many dirty diapers as possible. It make take a few days but keep it up! Mine took a few weeks for their numbers come down and we did not supplement. I agree with above answer. Give it a little time. He needs to eat in order to stool and if your milk only just came in then he needs a chance first.
Keep nursing! Let that babe stay on the breast if you can. Your milk will push it right out of his system. You got this mama!

Feeding him is the very BEST way!!! The more he stills the better as that is the only way to get the bilirubin out. Has he gotten the heel stick rest results back yet???
@allyzmommyxlw That's not what I meant. The heel stick rest that they do on every baby to test for common health conditions. Has that one come back yet??? Have they mentioned anything about using lights on him?
they did one when he was first evaluated in the hospital. Everything came back great. His bilirubin levels are the only issue. They've done 2 more heal sticks since
Ok awesome so this is just a case of new born jaundice and has nothing to do with an underlying health condition. That's great news. Just get that baby to eat, eat, eat, and eat some more so he can poo as much as is possible.
