My (almost) four year old knows most of the states and all the oceans. Knows lots of colors, numbers, and of course letters. He can read a lot of words and knows how to sound out. Is this considered impressive for his age or expected?

He’s always loved letters so it was easy for me to show him what sounds each letter made. Also vtech toys helped a ton he still plays with them! He loves to read books so I’ll point to the words as i read them. And for the map i bought a colorful map of the USA! Because he loves colors it’s easy

we have Melissa & Doug placemats you can write on to help my son learn the States & Capitals and the Presidents of the US. We also had a clock one when he was younger to help him learn how to tell time.

I'd say so! I don't think my kids even know what a state is! They have just started to get interested in letter sounds, my son the least.

He's not even four yet?! I would honestly have him evaluated to go to kindergarten early if he keeps this pace so he doesn't get bored and not want to learn. How does he do socially??

I just had him take an online kindergarten assessment test. 17 questions he got 14 right!

You should have him start writing his name. That’ll be the first thing they do in pre-K. Are you putting him in pre-K this fall? That’ll help him develop his social and emotional skills which is important along with academics. He’s off to a great start!

well normally you’d want to enroll in March/April, but since everything is closed right now I’m sure they’ll be more accommodating for enrollment. Maybe make a list of 3 schools you want to visit and then once they’re open you can check it out.
