Ladies I need advice!

Amethyst is getting to a point with her attitude where I’m not sure what to do. She’s defiant, she’s starting to lie and tells me no to pretty much everything and tells me stop.

I’ve tried reasoning with her, time outs, nap times, taking things away from her and spanking after a certain amount of time having to tell her not to do something.

She gets into everything all the time, and I know that that is normal but when I tell her to not mess with something and I remove it she will throw herself to the ground crying.

If I ask her to stop doing something she looks at me and gives me that look like “I’m cute I can do what I want” or that “make me” look.

When I spank her she will cry for a few seconds then go straight back to what she had just got into trouble for.

I’m trying to train our dog and whenever I do Amethyst yells at me to stop.

I have caught her poking the dogs eye while she’s asleep or pulling her tail and when I tell her not to do that because it’s not nice she says back “I didn’t do it”

She acts like she is in control and my fiancé and I just don’t know what to do anymore.

Help!!

If the spanking isnt helping I wouldnt do it anymore, it can teach hitting is okay, and that can be a whole new deal in itself.
I have found with my son that he will intentionally do something he knows is wrong to get attention. So for instance when he pulls the dogs tail I'll tell him "no no, that's an owie and we domt hurt the dog" I'll repeat my self up to 3x and if that doesnt work and I can tell hes doing it and looking at me to get a reaction, I'll take him to his room, put him in his pack and play and leave the room for about 5 minutes and then go get him, bring him to the thing he was doing wrong, reiterate why it's wrong and then I'll redirect him to something new and play with him with it! That's what I've found works for us !

We've been dealing with this with my daughter. She breaks things, refuses to potty train (she'll go next to the potty then laugh and say, "uh oh"), just all around out of control. I will warn you, it will only get worse when the new baby is born. She may regress and call herself baby again. Just keep speaking to her.

This is all normal behavior for a 2 year old. It actually gets way worse at age 3 😩 If she’s throwing a tantrum walk away and don’t give her any attention. If you need to discipline her, take away her favorite things or put her in time out. With my son, simply holding his hand for a minute is enough to do the trick. Kids will continue to test boundaries. She’s asserting her independence

I highly recommend the book “how to talk so little kids will listen”. You can download the audiobook if you don’t have time to sit back and read

My son was like that for a while I ended up having a room for him where I can put him in a time out. He would scream and cry and kick but eventually he learned that he wasn’t going to come out if he kept crying and soon he stopped trying to open the door. I had to make this room unavailable for breakable things though.

My apartment isn't big enough for that otherwise I would be more than happy to try that out

@tinymama, I promise it will get better. I had a really hard time with my son but when he turned four he started to calm down. Can you use a corner for timeout?

@mybabybear I've tried using a corner but she never stays there no matter how many times I tell her to stay or put her back, she thinks it's a big joke 😩😫

Sometimes you have to ignore them. That may sound crazy but as long as they are getting attention they'll keep it up. Good or bad. Ignore her. Act like she isn't bothering you. She'll stop.
