I had to buy a box of N95 masks when we moved here at the end of 2018 because the fires were so bad. I’m glad I still have that box and there’s a dozen. I have a compromised immune system so once I can go out again I’ll be using them.

This is nice an dandy but I bet the masks are not as obtainable, especially for those in healthcare already. I hope this changes.

You’re right. Masks are impossible to find now. My Dad came to drop off supplies for me on Tuesday and I talked to him through my window. He said 1/2 of people are wearing masks out here. We have had enough fires around here the past 2-3 years that I think some of us already had a small supply of masks from that and that’s why he saw so many people out there masked up.

If you can, I highly recommend donating unopened N95 masks to those risking their lives all day everyday in the health field.

I did donate other supplies we had like wipes and training pants and pads to moms who needed it more than I did. A friend of mine whose daughter is a T1D and was running low on test strips whose monthly shipment was delayed got my old ones. I had my dad take a few boxes of gloves to the food bank and a few to his clinic. I was a healthcare worker for 12 years so I get the need so I went through my house and found things before I myself got sick. It’s hard when you have the compassion to care for others when you also need to prioritize yourself and your family as well. It’s a tough balance. I’m doing the best I can.

I mean my cousin is working in a tent, outside of the hospital, triaging, testing, and treating COVID-19 patients. She doesn’t have any N95 masks. She has a gown that she has worn every shift for two weeks. She and another nurse share it, they work opposite shifts. She has a surgical mask with her name written on it. They’re allowed one surgical mask PER MONTH. The pack of PPE is astounding.
