How would you explain your period to a 4 year old?
TMI AHEAD!!!
My daughter was in the bathroom with me when I was changing my tampon/wiping and got scared because she saw blood... how do I explain this is normal to her????

Just be honest with her.
Tell her when she's older there will be a time she will be going through this as well and it's perfectly normal for all females. Be sure to tell her that there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of.
Both my girls know because they've both walked in on me changing pads/tampons. Honesty is the best policy.

@spookylyn, I love this! I have my daughter bring me pads too because it makes her feel helpful to me and it’s the sweetest seeing her little face light up when I ask for her help.

When I was a kid this happened to me and my mom just said something along the lines of it's a womans period and I'll tell you when you're older 🤷♀️

Tell her about periods. My daughter was worried about me the first time. And I told her all about it. She may have not understood completely. But it eased her mind and hasn’t asked since lol

My 4 year old daughter has also caught me changing pads on my period and she was so concerned as to why mommy “had blood” and I told her that it’s just what girls do when they get grow up (I don’t want to go too into depth because she’s only 4 and doesn’t understand like a 12 year old would) and it’s okay but mommy isn’t hurt and she was fine after that. Ever since then I’ve had her bring me pads whenever I need it so she feels like she’s involved in knowing what’s going on. If I had sons I wouldn’t hide it from them either. All natural and normal. ❤️

My young boys have walked in on me while in the bathroom too. And I just told them basically what @earthymama, said. That women at a certain age get a period and it’s totally normal. They thought I was hurt because they did see a little blood. Now I make sure to lock the bathroom door lol.

Both my daughter asked me when they saw me using the bathroom & saw my pad. I just explained to them what it was & that they’re going to get it when they’re older.

Been explaining it to my DD who is 4 also since she was only one and saw it for the first time. I just tell her it is my period and that it is ok. I tell her it is blood from my period and that it is normal, no mommy is not hurt, and one day she will have a period, too. She once thought I had a boo boo and I just calmly told her no, that it was just my period. Simple terms, age appropriate details, and just a calm reply each time and we have been fine over here. As they get older and understand more we can elaborate. The greatest moment in this was when we were in a public restroom and she exclaimed to me,"Mommy, you have your period!? Oh no!!!"..…. Laughed so hard that time telling yes but that noone needed to know. Lol.
