They used to call it " russian woodpecker", because when it was working it was knocking like a woodpecker.

This structure put into operation at 1962. For example the missile needs 28 minute from nevada to moscow. So they had 20- 25 minutes to push or not to push the red button. It was not effective. It was shut down at 1976 after chernobyl nuclear diseaster. While the cold war was over, it was many questions about duga -2, about it's capabilities, features. But it isn't any informations about it, just memories of people that had worked there at that time.
