My son is now on spring break because our school district closed down all schools due to corona virus exposure... I’m fine but spring break isn’t fair to so many families. Where’s the snow day style protocols for situations like this?

Did they just move spring break to a different date or are they going to do this and an Easter break? T has spring break this week also, but not due to the virus. I'm going to assume there is an Easter break also here.

They moved spring break to this week instead of Easter week. I personally thought they should just add five days at the end of the year but that’s just me.

When they tack days on at the end of the school year there are a lot of kids and families that don’t come to school for those extra days. School funding is based on attendance rate, so my guess is the decision to move the break rather than add make up days was based on finances.

I totally get the whole funding thing but I personally think it’s going to backfire no matter what the decision is. It already has as far as HS basketball goes. My district has the number one seed in the state and they pulled out of a huge tournament where seniors were being scouted. Let’s just say that got really nasty. I guess my thing is so many of us have spent a ton of money on airline tickets and vacations for spring break and many of those trips aren’t refundable. I’m in a very expensive business seminar out of town that’s non refundable the first two days myself and now I have to figure out childcare for our in home ABA sessions and everyone I usually hire is still going out of town that week. My Dad had it covered but now has my siblings in school and my son is on a completely different schedule. Most of the moms in my group aren’t changing their plans and are saying they’d be happier with extra days the first week of June. I wouldn’t mind that myself.
I also get that we need protect the public from a virus that they’re still trying to figure out how to treat, but they closed a 60 school district with 65k students because a family got exposed to a family member who tested positive for corona virus. All the kids in that family attend one school. So next question, was this excessive? There’s no word that they’re going to actually disinfect all 60 schools. My background is in nursing and even I’m raising my brows on this one...

Yeah, that seems like overkill. I agree. Especially if some of the schools are spread out geographically. I know that we’ve been told that decision to close one or all of our schools could come from the state dept of health, it may not even be a district decision. Don’t know if that’s how things work where you are.

the county health department said something very similar while also saying without saying it was overkill if you know what I mean.
