Question about taxes ...

Question about taxes ...

My daughters father and I are not married but live together. This year on his taxes he accidentally claimed the EIC ( earned income credit ) for our daughter . So when i filed my taxes , they got rejected because I am claiming her this year and her SSN can’t show up on two tax returns . He has amended his taxes , so my question is I know I have to paper file now but does it matter when I do so?

No, you can go ahead and mail it. They should accept your return with paper filing, and if they perceive there is still an issue (which there shouldn’t be if he amended his), y’all would just both receive notices later. You can just respond to that notice saying you were entitled to claim the dependent and he amended his return to reflect that. You really shouldn’t receive a notice though if he already amended.

yeah, and worse case scenario, they still issue a notice and all you do is respond letting them know y’all fixed the issue. Or you may not even have to respond. Most notices say something along the lines of “if this issue has already been resolved, disregard this notice”. 😊
