Has anyone ever received counseling.. was it worth it? Did it change your life for the better or did it not help at all? I dont want to go into full detail on my personal life but I'm going through alot of things & I'm leaning towards maybe speaking to someone professional but I'm kinda nervous. I've never opened up to a stranger on a deeper level & I just dont want to feel like I'm being judged or waste my time.

I was in therapy for a year following a suicide attempt when I was 20. I feel it helped me but not in ways I expected. It definitely helped me learn how to cope. I felt it was easier to open up to a stranger than to people I was “close to” because the strangers opinion carried less weight for me. If they were disapproving, I didn’t really care. I think everyone should seek therapy at one point or another. I got to know who I was on a deeper level.

I have tons of times but they talk to you like your stupid and basically weren’t helpful... then they report you if they feel some type of way it’s bs I don’t know why a stranger would give a crap about someone’s life just to read some crap from a book I find on google 🤦🏽♀️

That's another thing im afraid of. I dont want to say the wrong thing when expressing my feelings & them feeling like I'm unstable & trying to put me in a hospital & me knowing myself as not insane.

@spicydisaster, right well I assure you you’re not we’re only human ... and another thing you have to be careful is them mis diagnosing you as this or that which can make it worse because all they will do is throw pills down your throat and then if you mention anyone in your family they want them in there too smh it’s crazy

I also want to add that it really helped me understand who I wanted to be as opposed to who I was based on outside influences and expectations, which is huge.

I feel like it depends on the kind of person you are . For me , I’d want validation and advice and coping help from someone I know/love . Not a stranger who doesn’t really know me . I’ve had one counselor that helped me I guess . There was a pregnancy nurse program I joined my first pregnancy. I miscarried at 12 weeks and she really made an impact . She was the last one I ever saw but I was seeing them regularly before her . None ever helped

Counseling and therapy will only help if you want the help and are ready for the change. If you want someone to vent to they can do that but they will encourage you to make changes if there are things going on in your life that are unhealthy. They are only a mandated reporter when you are an active threat to yourself or someone else. If you walk through the door and say that you want to commit suicide or kill someone then yes they have to take action. Honestly anyone in their right mind would so don't be afraid of that.
I've been to therapy a few times. When I was going through a divorce. When I was hesitant about marrying my new husband because of the horrible divorce. It was really helpful. I think you should try it. Just keep an open mind.

I've been a few times and it's just not for me. You will never know unless you try. Don't be afraid to be picky if you do end up going. If you are more comfortable with a certain gender, tell the receptionist you talk to so they can set you up. If you aren't comfortable with the person after seeing them, find someone else.

I really enjoyed therapy. It gave me a chance to talk to an unbiased person who helped me validate my feelings while exploring ways to help me.
I was anxious at first because I didn’t want to say the wrong thing or be judged but the vast majority of therapists are there to help you help yourself and if you find a good one, it can be really beneficial.

I have been and it has helped. For me, my family and friends are very supportive but I have needed the outside perspective to put it in clear view for me. They just explain it and understand in such a non biased matter of the fact way that it helps you get it when you are truly hurting and just can’t or don’t want to see it on your own. I would highly recommend going if you are questioning at all. Just be totally honest.
