Found out that poor baby girl has an extremely tight tongue tie, lip tie, high palate and that her gag reflex is pushed forward. We know now why she won’t nurse off of the left side, take a bottle and spits up so much. It also means rigorous speech/feeding therapy and chiropractic care, and if that doesn’t work, then a revision. At least we have answers, even if I didn’t want to hear it 😒Also this means that we probably won’t be looking at starting solids until closer to 8 months.

Sounds like what we just went through, but we found out closer to 2 months old. Sorry to hear about all the challenges. My LO had tongue and lip ties, high palate and the worst gag reflex our chiro had ever seen. He also has torticolis and left-sided muscle weakness on his entire body, but it affected his mouth and tongue movements too.
We did the revisions first and while they gave him enough mobility, he didn’t have the muscle strength to do anything with his tongue. So we saw 4 different SLPs and OTs (we also moved 5 hours away in the middle of all this). It took 2.5 months to get him taking a bottle, but it happened!!
Please message me if you want to talk more, the entire experience was really mentally and physically exhausting. Just wanted to let you know we’ve been through something very similar and I know how hard all the therapy and appointments are on top of never being able to leave baby with anyone else.

Thank you! I’m just glad we can finally start working on it! I never went through this with my first so it’s all new, and honestly pretty scary.

I understand what you mean by scary! It’s a lot to deal with and you just want your baby to be happy and healthy. But the work that you do in eating therapy will help! We had sucking, chewing and tongue exercises. Gag desensitizing. Basically treated him as if he were a premie. Went through soooo many brands of bottles. But then one day it clicked and it’s like his tongue woke up. His latch is better on me and he’ll take a bottle from anyone.
