Thank you for this! I’m not a teacher, but work in the mental health field with kids. We work closely with schools and teachers, and see how damn hard teachers work everyday.

What they do, and what my staff do, is so thankless. For every person who’s life we touch and help improve, there are ten more who complain and place blame.

It feels like the general public forgets that teachers (and all public service workers, first responders, healthcare providers etc) are machines who owe them. We are human beings too!

I appreciate this post so much. The general public seems to think teaching is an easy job & the lack of respect for the profession is disheartening. Many people do view it as free childcare, unfortunately. Or they think we are their co-parents and make ridiculous demands. Teachers are highly educated professionals. In my school alone, 27 out of our 30 teachers have a master’s degree, plus many graduate credits beyond their degree. I wish the public held the same viewpoint as you do. Thank you.

People who don’t respect teachers blow my mind. The people complaining about a strike are probably also the same people who complain about “how long the back-to-school item list is” . 🙄.

These teachers make a fourth of what they actually should be making. If a teacher asks you for six cans of Lysol, cough it up!! These teachers deserve so much more.

Every Restaurant I’ve served at, I have always served alongside people who are also teachers… The fact they need to double up on jobs is so disheartening.

They need more. They need more support.

I appreciate this post so much im no teacher but these teachers go out there way to teach our kids to make.sure they have a bright future and i I believe the need updated books and alot.of things.to help these teachers at less good checks too for dealing with these bad ass.kids as well

I don't get upset that the teachers are on strike but im a SAHM so I don't have to worry about daycare. I've seen all the preparation and work. My daughter has always had very excellent teachers that have cared for her. Even with her high demands and sensitivity they've never gotten frustrated with her.

This is what I don't like.

I don't like that the kids get involved and they get punished.

I'm not sure where everyone else is but here they kids have to make it up losing their spring break and summer every day the schools are closed due to strikes.

I wish they could come up with a different solution. I've followed what has been going on because my husband has an aunt and cousin who work as teachers.

They already spend so much time at school, I hate for their spring/summer to be taken. But our teachers also deserve sooo much better.

Riiight right, some parents do get huffy puffy because of what you said, it’s their "daycare”, that’s so dumb I see that a lot with this flu season. Parents are sending their kids to school very sick. It’s so wrong

As a single parent who works full time when my kids start school I will depend on them being at school so I can work. With that being said vacations/days off/strikes/and being sick I would 100% do what I had to do for my kids not being at school. Whether finding a babysitter OR taking time off work. I wouldn’t get mad at the school for that though.

Also teacher are so underpaid and not appreciated enough. They are teaching our kids. Preparing young generations for adulthood etc. they deserve so much more.

Me personally have never had problem with getting child care.Only reason I'd be pissed that teachers is on strike because my babies need to learn.while us adults arguing about wages and fairness (which i totally get)the child is stuck at home with my no licenced teacher having ass lol.lets find another way to stand up for fair wages other than walking out on the kids.
