Brother Update

After we sent out the email it took 4 minutes to get a response from the principal. She remembered us from my brothers IEP meeting and us giving a brief mental health history and asking us to watch for potential behavior. She had no idea that my brother had said that and it was actually reported. After an investigation, the teacher admitted he knew but was only asking around about him and never reported it as mandated by law.

There’s now a psychologist involved who did find my brother low risk. There was a meeting I couldn’t get to where they apologized to my father and said there will be more training on things like this. I’m still upset because the teacher didn’t have to be accountable and admin covered his ass. In my world, people are held accountable and I think his negligent behavior is grounds for an apology. I’m very concerned for my sons safety as well because he’s a student at the same school. While once admin found out things got handled, it still happened and there was a lack of accountability when it came to that teacher dealing with my family. It’s sad a teacher can screw up that level of bad and hide. What if my brother had actually hurt himself?

I woke up still triggered and not feeling this situation. My mother died the way my brother was thinking of hurting himself. Now I gotta take my kid to a school I’m not really feeling right now. I really hope he gets into the Montessori charter now more than ever!!!
