So my son recently got switched to a toddler bed because he was climbing out of his crib. His door doesn’t latch properly and he knows how to open it. How our house is set up when you come out of his room you can go into the living room and then there’s a gate between the kitchen and living room. He has gotten up every single night and went to sleep on the couch or in the morning will play in there until we get up. The living room is 100% baby proof. Do I get a baby gate to keep him in his room or do I just allow him to go to the living room if he wants?

I would say just get a gate so that he can not get to the rest of the house... But you say that the livingroom is 100% babyproof so i think its ok if he plays in the livingroom
