My little one was complaining of his ear hurting after I’d put him to bed tonight. I could hear him on the monitor so I went to check on him. When I looked at his ear it was very red and red was blood sat in the dip between the ear lobe and the but where the wax comes from (home that makes sense). I cleaned the blood and no more seems to be coming from there (so wasn’t an external scratch) so I got a cotton bud (and I know I shouldn’t before anyone tells me off) and just gave some of the wax I could see a wipe with it and as worried there was blood in that.
Anyone had experience of this? He had an ear infection on Christmas Eve (along with many other illnesses) and so was on a 7 day course of strong antibiotics.
Anyone had this happen?

He may have damaged his ear, very common with little ones! Best get it checked x

@mrsbodell, @vixster, thanks ladies. I’ll phone drs in morning and get him looked at. I’ve been googling and it says that it can be cause by an infection causing damage to the ear?

Very possible. My ear has bled when I had an ear infection. Poor little one, hope he’s okay x

Ouch 😫defo possible for ears to bleed if an infection is present , I’ve had ear problems since young and always bled with infections and had tubes twice. Warm flannel over the ear and some calpol if he wakes in the night. I hope all goes well xx

Definitely go to the dr. Our little boy had an ear infection that just wouldn’t shift. After 6 antibiotics, 2 of which were also steroids it eventually got better. His eardrum had actually burst and he had what the dr described as pea soup coming out of it. Untreated infections can also eat away at the eardrum so definitely best to get checked.

Thanks everyone. Got him in to the drs for 10:50. They are usually tough to get him in but as soon as I mentioned the blood they sorted him out.

If there's blood it's likely to be a perforated ear drum caused by infection. Too much pressure builds up behind the ears and if the fluid has no where to go it causes the ear drum to burst x
