How the heck are car insurance quotes calculated?
Hubby and I were both on the same comparison site this evening. We were entering details for the same car, giving the same answers, the only difference between us was he quoted for a policy in his name with me as a named driver, and I got quotes with me as the policyholder and him as the named driver.
His quotes were noticeably less than mine, for the same insurers! Same website. Same car. Same drivers. Same details.
For example Halifax gave him a quote of £146 on one of the cars, while they quoted me £185... HOW???
They look at your job as well. So Przemeks only option when he does it online is to put down that he's a aircraft engineer, even though he's still a mechanic. When he does it online and puts in that he's an engineer he gets quotes of like £800+ annually, where as if he does it over the phone and they put in that he's a mechanic he gets quotes of around £500 annually.
I don't know how they can justify doing that, but basically the more you earn the more some companies will charge you xx
Maybe it’s a claim back bonus? Maybe your husband has more years of no claim back and that’s why when he put himself a main driver the insurance is cheaper.x
We've both got over 10 years though, and he was the driver last time we had to claim!
Are yous the same age and both had the licences the same time? That's only thing i can think of. Although me n my partner have done the same n mine was cheaper than his n hes had his for longer than me so yeah its so weird! Xx
He was born in the May and I was born in the June, of the same year.
He passed his test in October and I passed mine 3 months later - so he's currently got 17 full years of experience while I've got 16 years 10 months.
I’m in the USA but here a lot plays a factor. Age, years driving, driving record, any lapse in coverage, credit score/report, gender, profession, some company’s will give discounts depending on who you’re affiliated with or have a membership with. Some give discounts for having a good driving record and no lapse in coverage.
We were born 6 weeks apart, and he passed his test 3 months before I did. Neither of us have additional driving qualifications or IAM membership.
We've had policies together for 13 years, neither of us have made claims or had any incidents in the last 5 years & we've both got over 10 years no claims discount.
In the UK it's supposed to be illegal to use gender as a criterion - but before this came into effect, men were regarded as higher risk than women so tended to be charged more (there was some statistic floating around years ago saying 95% of all accidents were caused by male drivers).
Sexism maybe 🤷🏻♀️ hope not ! Xx
