I realize most people don't share pictures of dead chickens on their Instagram feed but we're no standard instagram over here 🤷🏻♀️ We lost Puff yesterday, surprisingly the only chicken we've lost since we got them in the spring.
True to their personalities, Tessa was unphased while Ellia mourned Puff's passing- until we said this meant they could get a new chick in the spring and suddenly they both were very much okay with Puff being dead and started fighting over who got to pick which breed chicken we'd get.
It sparked some good conversations at bedtime about life and death- it's permanence- eternity- the difference between animals and humans- how it's okay to be sad and miss them- how it's good to talk about the things they liked and miss about them now.
