I have a question for those who have experience working in retail.

I recently got a seasonal job in retail.. Exactly a month ago. The first 2 weeks working there I got 2-3 days a week. They told me once I was done with training I'd get more days/hrs. This week I only got 1 day, next week I have 2 work days then the week after that they didn't even schedule me!

Is this normal for seasonal retail jobs? All I want is more hours/days not zero work days/hours in a week!

If you were hired during a seasonal hiring event then its likely because they have more staff than they need at the moment. Most places will schedule this way and then weed out the seasonal workers who arent performing their best or who arent able to work a flexible schedule. Just hang in there, do the best you can and if they call you in show up! If they see you are dependable and hard working youll get more hours.

Thank u ladies! I did ask for more hrs/days when I noticed I only got 1 day. My supervisor said they were still training ppl and asked me to be patient. I don't wanna bug her again but honestly.. I could use the extra money to get things the kids really need!

I’d just ask them if they have a call in list you can put your name on or remind them that you are available to work more hours. It’s easier for the person doing the schedule to overlook how many days a specific person gets. Most of the time they just try to fill the shift in and don’t mean to intentionally short someone hours/days. I use to schedule my staff and sometimes I would overlook but once someone brought it to my attention I’d work them on.
