I lost my job due to my daughter being sick I bought in all my paperwork in everything my lights are about to be off and my child’s bday is in two weeks I feel like I’ve failed

I was wondering about those same things. If it wasn't lawful, call a lawyer asap. Companies play pretty dirty these days. I got laid off from a job I was at with great reviews for 15 years. My hourly rate is higher than a new grad, so they axed me. Karma is coming, folks!
