Yes. Check your state laws. Some require at least a year of abandonment or in some cases if they find it's more beneficial for the child because of the parents actions.
He can fight it if he wants. Definitely have an attorney for this. Sometimes they want you and the person to be married for the adoption, but it may not always be the case.
My bf n I r both married the spouses won’t sign the papers my bf n I was friends for 7yrs n together for 3yrs so 10yrs we got we both have lawyers for our divorce so we can get married we don’t live together bc we thought it would b beat to wait til our divorce was done
@bethmartin895 look and see if there are uncontested divorces. I think that's what they are called. Definitely brush up on all the laws for things, but They'll probably want you two to be married for it and they will be asking the reason for adoption. So be prepared for that as well.
@bethmartin895 so you guys want to adopt each other's kids once you're married? I never actually her of step parent adoptions going both ways. Do the parents see the kids at all???
Yes. To keep crazies from trying to pull a fast one. The biological parent must give up rights. Unless there is some legal circumstances. But check your state law.
Yes. If the person was on the birth certificate they would have to relinquish their rights. Depending on the state their is a way to do it without the other party but that's typically only in situations where you don't know where the parent is and they haven't paid support.
