Breastfeeding mamas, I feel like I produce a lot of milk, like a lot. She’s a lazy eater but she eats as long as I mess with her and keep her awake. I also feed her whenever she pleases. I was given a manual Medela pump at the hospital to take home and was wondering if I’m safe to pump and freeze milk? I feel like I have a little bit of anxiety with her and breastfeeding because it didn’t work out with my son because of a dr. I don’t want anything to happen to my supply but I’m constantly leaking and engorged and I know it’d be helpful to have some frozen milk for emergencies where I wouldn’t be with her.

Yes it’s safe to pump & freeze. I talked to my breastfeeding counselor & she told me if you pump & freeze it’s good for up to 6 months.

It’s safe but remember if you start pumping it’s just telling your body to make more. It should mellow out in a week or two. Get a Hakka

Really? Will I just have a whole new problem on my hands?

@bubbys.mommy, it could cause a over supply

It’s normal to overproduce in the beginning until your milk regulates. If you pump then it’ll just fill right back up again. It’s best to let your baby regulate your supply. If she sleeps too long then wake her up. If you get too full and engorged then hand express a little to soften the nipple before she latches.

It’s almost impossible to wake her up unless I strip her down to a diaper 😭

@bubbys.mommy, yeah that’s normal too. My daughter was the same way. You can wipe her face with a cold wipe, play with her hands, tickle her cheek, whatever you can do. It’s temporary.
