I had to leave work Four hours early because my daughter bit a child for the second day in a row. I’m a little frustrated because in the past she was bitten l so many times and I never gave them a hard time about it but apparently the parent of the child who got bit made a big deal so they made me pick my daughter up. She is 16 months I don’t understand how they expect me to discipline her. If she is under their care I feel like it’s their responsibility to make sure she doesn’t bite other kids.

They don’t have time to follow just your kid around and make sure she doesn’t bite everybody lol you can still teach her right from wrong at home. Bitting is a big deal because germs from a human mouth can kill!!

@mom.wife12, girl it’s okay, at her age they aren’t able to communicate well. She may do it out of anger, excitement or if someone else is bothering her first. Kids will be kids. At home I would just show her gentle touch. My daughter had an issue with hitting and pinching. I would show her even when she wasn’t doing those things how to gentle touch. I’d rub her arm, give her a hug, give her a kiss etc. Now she is more aware of her actions. It takes time and consistency. If she does something at school, I wouldn’t discipline her at home for it. She won’t understand why she is in trouble or correlate that she is in trouble at home for something she did at school. If she does it in front of you than of course address it. Everything is gonna to be okay.

@sistersmainpiece, thank you. And yes if I saw the behavior I would definitely correct her. I’m just really frustrated that they would make me pick her up knowing how understanding I have been in the past about my daughter being bit. Not only that when she got there they were at not only that when she got bit their response to me was that there’s not much they can do because the other kids are just as young as her and they don’t know right from wrong

Just tell her no over and over and redirect her to things she can bite like an apple and other foods. Explain to her how bitting hurts really badly and she needs to stop hurting her friends. Most kids go through that.
