Breastfeeding mommas.... I want to go back to breast feeding my little guy just isn't tolerating formula. How do I get my milk supply back up? I'm not dried up yet..
Pump and nurse as much as possible. Even if you don't get a lot at first the pumping will stimulate the breasts to make more. When trying to increase supply the most important aspect is to frequently remove as much milk from the breasts as often as possible.
Stay very hydrated always offer baby to breast when you think he’s hungry that would increase your supply . Also oatmeal helps
About a couple weeks. I've been breast feeding a little but not full force like I was.
Even putting the baby to the breast a little is a good first step 😊 if you don’t want to do formula anymore I would suggest seeking out a local breastfeeding counselor(BFUSA OR LLL) they are free to get a latch assessment.
Then consistently put baby to the breast first every 2hrs. Follow his hunger cues. Don’t unlatch your baby after a set time. Let him decide when to unlatch.
You may have to top off with formula or pumped milk until your supply gets up if it has diminished. Power pumping may help in this case. If you search it in google it’ll come up.
In order to make more milk YOU HAVE TO MOVE MILK meaning baby on breast for everything. Always offer.
No huge amounts of water, oats or food will increase supply. That is a myth momma and don’t let anyone tell you differently. Keep the constant nipple stimulation going.
And again, please reach out to those groups I mentioned !
When my supply gets really low and I can't get it up with pumping alone I call my OB for a prescription of Reglan. Its not expensive and really really helps.
