We are still on the waiting list for Pre-K. I called back in February! When I called, she said I was one of the first 10 people on the list, and if I had waited even a month later to call, we probably wouldn’t have made the cut. Yet, we are still waiting. And I just found out that her pre-k & her kindergarten (if we are still here in a year) require a school uniform. They don’t even allow free Fridays / casual Fridays. I’m pissed. I never liked the idea of a school with uniforms. Let the kids express themselves ... 😒.

The school my kids go to has a 5 year waiting list the only way my sons got to go is because they opened up a new autism program my oldest goes to. We have to wear uniforms also and get somewhat of a relaxed friday with jean shorts 🙄 lol. this is our first year doing uniforms and I found it easier since my kids want to wear a million accessories! lol

@no062014, for sure, everyone prefers something different. I’ve read it’s to prevent bullying.🙄. Kids just need to be taught better.

not just bullying. The school I went to served a low income community so it helped prevent students from coming to school in dirty or torn clothing (helped the nurse have set items brand new so that kids needing to change didnt have to wear something in the lost our found box), also helped with the dress code no one would wear something causing them to need to change or being sent home. And teaching the kids would be easier if more parents were on the same page but realisticly it just doesnt happen.

Im sure I’ll warm up to it. I’m just not pleased now. I think every child should be able to express themselves - especially in the older grades. Parents just need to keep an eye on, and only purchase clothes that are cohesive with the school dress code. But, it is what it is. I don’t have an option really. Nevada is garbage when it comes to school choses, unfortunately.

Omg isn't that crazy! I never knew it could be so long! I already have to put my daughter on their list and she's not even one yet. ugh I know what you mean it can be hard having to only do uniforms, today was picture day so everyone came casual as long as it's in school guidelines.

Personally I love the idea of uniforms. We had uniforms from PreK to 8th grade. Then, high school there were no uniforms, so that made high school even more exciting!!

I had the same issue of a wait list in the Bay Area. 2-3 years for all levels. It was wild.

Uniforms...more and more schools are doing it. I see both sides to the issue. I love shopping and my son loves his clothes as much as I do. At the same time, I could see the benefits as well. I’m looking at a Montessori charter for my son and they require uniforms. I think as long as the kiddos are getting the proper education I’ll go with whatever flow. Freedom of expression via shoes I suppose?
