I asked my daughter if she needed to go to the potty because she was pooping and the princess led me to the toilet and wanted to sit on it. Time to start potty training?
Well at one year is when they start to mimic everything that adults do, so she is likely wanting to sit on the toilet because she sees you do it. At 13 months it’s unlikely she understands why you’re supposed to sit on the toilet and what happens when you do. I’d hold off on training for a while. It’ll just be frustrating for both of you.
Oh I don’t want to potty train her if she’s not ready I don’t want her to have a negative relationship with it. I’ve put her on her toilet before to help her get comfortable with it (it’s a toddler toilet so she can get up and sit down all on her own) but I don’t want to hold her back if she wants to use it yknow?
@lorany, you can leave the toddler potty there for her to practice sitting with her diaper on, but I wouldn’t start any formal training. She will need to be able to follow commands, sit still for a couple minutes, and eventually tell you when she has to go. Typically those milestones don’t happen til 18-30 months. When I’m on the toilet my son will come up to me, grab a piece of toilet paper and put it between my legs like he’s trying to wipe me 😂 He doesn’t know what he’s doing, he’s just mimicking me. That’s how they start to learn.
She’s pretty young but I would just keep offering if she is showing interest! Usually signs are dry diaper after nap, interest in the potty, being able to tell you, etc.
She’s had dry diapers after naps for a while now. I don’t want to push her too much but I don’t want to hold her back you know? She was a 9 month walker so I’m not sure if she’s just gonna be early with stuff or what 🤷🏼♀️
