He just started a few days ago and it’s just when he’s crying like sometimes he can barely get noise out

Lol my 1 year old son has a raspy voice but when I went to the dr and had him checked and nothing was wrong with him at all. But it’s so funny how he makes his voice like that I’m sure he will grow out of it.

You can take him to a ear, nose, and throat doctor. My sister inlaw went and they discovered that the reason she has a raspy voice is because she has acid reflux so she has to take medication for it, she's 21, the medication doesn't stop the raspy voice but it helps with the reflux.

Have you checked his tonsils ? My niece had a very raspy voice as a kid and she had issues breathing at night - turns out she had enlarged tonsils and they needed to take it out

That just may be how his voice is.. my son had always had a very deep voice.
