Question for the mamas: I’m 37 wks & 3 days pregnant and my boyfriend and I wanted to travel 2 hrs away to go to Tahoe for a night from Monday - Tuesday! I’m kind of skeptical going knowing I could now go into labor anytime. I’ve had a healthy pregnancy, no complications and with my first I didn’t have preterm labor. Do you think it’s a good idea to go?! I’m just nervous and want a second opinion, two hours isn’t too far lol. But it could feel like an eternity when in labor ... 😳

I think we’re going to go to lake Berryessa! Go swimming just for the day, good lake?

So everyone I called an advise nurse! She said the elevation in South Lake Tahoe is 6,237ft. She said supposedly that’s mild elevation and she doesn’t see anything in my chart saying higher elevation sickness BUT if I want too go it’s up to me. She left the decision up to me and honestly I asked her personally would she go being almost 38 weeks and she said no. So looks like we might not go guys! Possibly do something locally. We really just wanted to swim at the lake and enjoy the last couple weeks together but if that means pre mature labor or anything of that sort than yeaaa no. Lol thanks guys!

What about Redding? There are some pretty lakes and waterfalls and some things for your daughter as well if she goes along.

Or Eureka, Ca. 🤗

Don’t do it!

I live in Reno and once I hit 35 weeks my OB said absolutely no driving through the mountains because the pressure changes could cause you to go into labor.

I would have never known.

I had wanted to go through Tahoe / Donner Pass over to Sacramento to visit my mom, but nope. He said it was too dangerous.

My second came almost a week early. I barely made it to the hospital before she was born and it is a 10 minute drive. Contractions went from 10-15mins to 3mins/constant. I literally almost had her in the car. I’d be nervous to go anywhere this close to baby time.

Plus, Barton is a small hospital. 😭

I had my second at UC Davis in Sacramento (had him at 29 weeks), and while he was in the nicu I met someone from somewhere in the Bay Area, I can’t remember exactly where, and they had been up in Tahoe and went into labor early. If you’re from sea level it’s not recommended to go to the mountains because of the risk of premature labor (even if you’re 37 weeks, it’s still earlier than what your body would be ready for), I think there’s bleeding risks as well. I know it would probably be nice to get away and cool down but at this point I wouldn’t risk it. And, it’s crazy busy up here right now anyway.

Two hours is very far away, labor tends to be quicker with your second child. I went into labor naturally at 37 weeks with my second child. I wouldn't risk it personally. Wouldn't want to spend two hours in the car while in labor, or sounds like torture. My hospital was only 15 mins max away and it was awful just being in the car that long
