I live in Virginia and I’m having the most difficult time getting Medicaid insurance for my pregnancy. I applied July 1st and it’s now July 23 and no response from my social worker. It’s so frustrating because I can’t afford doctors visits because of my low income. I went to the hospital on July 4 due to pain on my right side which was when I found out how far along in my pregnancy I was and the bill came out to me $960. Any advice?

Is that through Cover Virginia? Or the Medicaid website?

@erickamoran28, thru the children and families website.

If you get approved they should back date it.

I had an emergency ultrasound before my state insurance went through during my first pregnancy. It was over $1000 and they ended up back paying it. Hopefully it all works out for you

My Medicaid didn’t go active on time for my first visit and I was like two months pregnant without knowing and I was drinking and so I hurried in for my visit and payed 750 for a check up and as soon as my Medicaid came in my doctors office reimbursed me my money after they they charge your insurance back date. So I’m sure you can try it or ask them.

I haven’t paid the hospital bill yet I just got it in like a week ago do you suggest I pay it and wait till they reimburse me or should I wait till I get approved?

@erickamoran28, I had to pay upfront so i had no choice. I would wait but just don’t let it go late so it doesn’t get late charges I would think

I’m in the 757 too. I know some drs office will allow you to still be seen if you bring in a letter stating you have applied. Generally if you apply you should get something in the mail saying you’ve applied and you will receive and answer shortly. You could also call the toll free number ‭1 (855) 242-8282‬. It’s cover Virginia. They should be able to look up the status of your application. If Medicaid is approved it can back date and cover those appointments.

Omg thank you! I would hope it could help cover the previous hospital visit being that it was while I was pregnant. And it was after I applied.

I would try contacting your Social Worker until they respond to you. Also, does the hospital you went to offer a hardship discount? I know LewisGale Montgomery in Blacksburg, VA does.

Oh I’ve been calling her non stop and leaving messages and calling her supervisor! And still I’m at nothing. They haven’t informed me if I was accepted or denied or if they need more information.
