Today was one of those days where being a parent has drained me to the core. My daughter caught an allergic reaction to something idk what it is, she broke out in hives on her way to school so we had to detour to the Dr. Her asthma has been at a peak last night with constant coughing & throwing up, I put her in the tub and she had a seizure. She has to see a neurologist soon, her doctor suggested early intervention for her speech so she has to be evaluated soon (how do they help them talk? What techniques?), she has to gain more weight by October (she’s in the normal range but at the lowest normal range), she finally sees a dentist Thursday, ugh this is a lot but I’ll do anything to make sure she’s fine.

My daughter is in early intervention for speech. I’m not sure what the techniques are that they use but my daughter went from not saying a word to almost complete sentences in about 6 months. It has been very helpful. She’s been in it for about a year now.

I’m glad to hear that, I’m definitely hoping she’ll learn a lot in 6 months. She talks good but not full sentences a 3 year old should be saying

What’s your doctor’s concerns surrounding speech? My son has been in therapy for a little over a year now and I’m happy to answer any questions about what we’ve been through. We didn’t go through EI, but a private place instead. Nothing against EI, he just didn’t qualify the first time we had him evaluated and the second time we just went straight to private because they had a great time slot.

@makeupmomplustwo_, there’s a lot of techniques and it’s very much play based. When we were working on lengthening sentences, we started small, like “I want ball” and my son would have to repeat the sentence before he could have whatever toy he was requesting (a ball in this example). Eventually, we progressed to longer sentences like “I want the blue ball please.” If it’s possible to have them come to your house while you’re there, they can teach you how to model the sentence progression so you can reinforce when the therapist is not around.
That was the best part about my son’s therapy - I was there every session with him for the first year and then taught my husband and the grandma’s what he was working on so everyone reinforced it. He gained 2 years of speech growth in 1 year and went from being basically unable to speak (couldn’t say words or letter noises) to using 12+ word sentences now.

that sounds great. I can’t wait to fill out his packet so we can get this going as soon as possible. Idk if you watched the wild thornberrys years ago but that’s how my daughter talks sometimes lmao. I be like huhhhhhhh 😂 but it’ll get better

I remember the Thornberrys! My son still has episodes where it’s complete gibberish to everyone but him. It’s getting better but I’ll be like .... ummm yes I have no idea what you’re saying buddy!

My stepson son is in early intervention RightNow and what they do is they come with the parents child and parents play with the toys in the beginning then they will all get in a circle and have story time then a craft, snack then go outside to play on the playground. Well they are doing a craft or snack time they will ask do you want blue sparkles or green.. whatever they have. They have stairs to teach them to go up them! It's a great class and it also teaches them to have a routine

Great, I’m even more excited that they’re going to try to incorporate it with her regular school so she’ll probably get a hour alone with the therapist but still in her classroom. I like the one on one.

He hasn't said any new words yet but he also has only been going for a few weeks. When they go outside they had a rope with different color rings and the kids and to hang on to it well walking outside they can't let go so it great to teach them to listen too
