All the milk I defrost smells sour 😭 my son will not drink it and now I’m gonna have to start him on formula because I have to go back to work soon. I really didn’t want to have to do formula but gotta do what I have to for him to be full and happy.
What brand and type of formula do you guys use? My son is a very gassy baby.
@kasey.m some do but most will refuse it cuz of the taste. They will drink it fresh pumped or off the source but once unfrozen or chilled the tatse of the high lapse comes out
Agreed I was going to mention the high lipase. It usually shows in when u defrost. Also make sure ur defrosting properly!
What exactly shows to know if it’s that? What’s the proper way to defrost?
I’ve been taking it from freezer and putting in refrigerator until defrosted then warming in warm water for him to drink. Smells sour even before warming.
You could have high lipase in your breast milk that’s probably why it’s sour. Add some non alcoholic vanilla extract to the breast milk
@p., thank you! I’ll have to try that out. I really want to use the milk.
Yes I agree. I’m gonna still try to breastfeed when possible. Hopefully every other feeding until he absolutely has to be on the bottle because of work. I’m just sad that our breastfeeding journey has to end.
@kasey.m, you could pump what you can at work then just supplement the extra he needs. It doesn’t have to end if you don’t want it too.
They're required to give you breaks to pump. If you get in the rhythm now and continue during work you should pump enough to keep him on breast milk 💜 Don't let this slow you down.
My work does give 3 15 min breaks for pumping but I work 10-12 hour shifts. That’s not a sufficient amount of time to actually pump and it’s not that I can’t pump it’s that if all my milk is sour I don’t see him wanting to drink it after it’s been sitting. I don’t pump enough per day to supply him for the next day if I just kept it refrigerated. I want to be prepared before going to back to work.
@kasey.m I was just trying to be uplifting. My bad.
Similac is a good formula.
Yes that's the proper way to do it so I would def say the high lapse.
