Hello everyone, I just joined this group today in hopes that I could get some support here. I Just gave birth on May 22 and right now this journey is really testing my marriage relationship. Husband feels overwhelmed, he feels that he’s being under appreciated during this whole process (my postpartum ) and today we had an argument again and while walking away frustrated he said “I’ll keep being the patient husband and let you decide what you want to do like always” but said it sarcastically. Honestly, I am exhausted and I know he is too as he’s gone back to work but I let him sleep at night I do not ask for his help with our son but yet he’s frustrated with me. I don’t understand, I feel confused. I am the the that gave birth and not him and although I understand he’s helped a lot too I feel like he’s gotten to the point to where he has no more patience with me. I have told him how much I appreciate him and all but I don’t know what else I can do to help him feel MORE appreciated. Maybe I am the one that doesn’t understand how he’s really feeling and before postpartum we rarely had any arguments and now it’s like every week. Has anyone gone through this?
Sorry it’s so long I just needed to vent.

You are probably both just exhausted and feeling under appreciated. New babies always bring some stress and tension. It will pass. Just try your best to treat each other well and remember you are partners.

It is such a life changing experience introducing kids in a relationship. My hubby and I would always argue when my first son was born. He felt like I never gave him any attention anymore and he was really having a hard time coping with it not being just us any more. Even sex was a huge argument because my vag took too many months to recover. Sex was unenjoyable for me for a long time, was painful, and I was too exhausted to even want to have sex. It was really tough. And now we are expecting baby #2, and what I have learned is that it is really important to set time aside regularly for each other. It sucks that men can't just be understanding to our needs when we just had birth and are the ones that are doing all of the hard work, but instead of focusing on that, just acknowledge his feelings and consider what he might be feeling, and make an effort to make sure he is seen and it is just not all about the baby. It really goes a long way. It is like babying them in a way, but it will do you two so much good because when he is happy, he is more inclined to be helpful and such. And vice versa as well.
