Rant: Sooo in the past for every room mate we’ve ever had we’ve had a rule of, if you don’t want something eaten, put your name on it. Every room mate out there has followed that rule, buying their own groceries, putting their name on things they didn’t want us to eat. We do the same, we purchase most of the groceries since were the owners of the house but we write our names on the stuff we don’t want the room mate to touch. I cook dinner and normally make too much so I always offer the room mate food. This current room mate however has decided to not buy any groceries, and just eat whatever we don’t write our names on. 😑 I’ve never had this problem in the past! I’m literally buying all of this dudes food, he makes just as much as me and only bill he has is rent. Yet he’s being stingy as hell, only eating whatever I don’t write our names on. I understand he’s following the rule but I’m not giving him permission to eat everything I buy but don’t put our names on, he should still buy his own food and the rule is in place just so we don’t eat each other’s fav foods. I’m not going to go through my whole pantry and write my name on every single item, every single canned good, just so he won’t be a stingy jerk. Talking to my bf about it tonight since he’s his best friend. 🙄he literally reached into the fridge yesterday and helped himself to some beer as he whispered under his breathe, “doesn’t have a name on it” 😑

Yea and I’d hate to have to keep food in my room, that doesn’t sound fun. It wouldn’t be so bad if it were a here and there thing either since he’s just one person, but this dude gets high every day, all day and then eats.
@dshawnea, it’s not fun at all. So he has money to get high but can’t afford to buy his own food. That’s pretty shitty.
@momma_of_1, exactly. Not to mention he has no problem getting a ride to the dispensary to get more but hasn’t made the effort to get a ride to the grocery store. Not to mention he could order groceries for the same price it would cost to get a ride but doesn’t.
No I get you, but dude literally buys nothing, I’ve never had a room mate who abuses the rule before. And it’s not a rule we have in place to allow people to eat everything it’s just mainly there so we’re not bummed when our fav food is eaten. It’s not the first room mate I’ve had but the first time I’m going to have to actually write my name on everything. I just feel this guy likes to use us a lot, he’s constantly looking for a ride to and from work because he “can’t afford a ride”, constantly using us for food, and yet he’s posting on Facebook, “what should I blow my paycheck on this week?”
Is he a good roommate other than the food thing?? If not I’d figure out a way to kick him out. Give him notice. I’d be annoyed with him asking me for rides. And eating my food lol.
Well ya can’t be mad. No name means free game 🤷🏼♀️ that’s how it is in my house also. Either write your name on the left overs or don’t get mad if some one eats it. And I would write my name on everything I buy as soon as I put them away.

I would be that person to write my name on everything. Or put all my can goods in a bag and staple it shut with my name on it.
Well I kinda know how you feel. We live with our in laws and omg since we share the same fridge, i ended up having to do the same thing. I bought food and like literally the whole family would end up using it or without asking my permission if they can have any. So I ended up like having some stuff in our room like sodas, caprisuns and stuff like that. I use my initials now. But yesterday I had bought some eggs, milk and cereal. I had totally forgot to put my initials and it was almost halfway done. But knowing that they had saw me put the food away. I just hate it because when I’m not around they end up getting stuff behind my back.
