My 18 month old climbed up a chair to get to a lunchbox I was given as a gift for my new position. Apparently somewhere in the hidden pockets laid a gel silica pad that she opened and apparently ate a few beads before throwing it out of her mouth (as I called her name in the other room) I ran to her when I saw her spitting something up (anxiety) and I was mortified to find the packet open. The beads were in the floor and half still inside the packet. I know she didn’t eat a lot and threw it out of her mouth when she didn’t like the taste. BUT I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT THE WORST AND CALLED MY HUSBAND SCREAMING TO GET POSION CONTROL ON THE LINE. While he was doing that i was looking online for any moms who’ve had similar cases, and apparently there is a lot. Poison control told us that it’s minor and that they receive a lot of calls from parents about these packets, and to just give her water.
I am still mortified and will probably be up all night monitoring her breathing. Moral of the story. TRUST NOTHING. Always triple check everything that might have these packets.
@divinely_favored, @marilyn3please, I also contact the website and they said that she would just experience nausea if anything at all. Still very scary tho. I don’t understand why they add those darn things in everything now days
I think they prevent moisture. Ofcourse you would be scared. Hopefully its worked its way out of her system by now.
Not trying to minimize your situation but I ate them as a kid. I dont think they are as dangerous as the package says if its just a small amount.
this happened with my dog once, i caught him with it in his mouth but thankfully he didn’t swallow any and i freaked out so bad, can’t imagine the level of the freak out if it was my kid 😂
I caught my daughter eating them because I could hear her chewing them. I don't know if she swallowed any cause the package was everywhere but she 2 was also fine.
